Logan and I visited another studio today. Picking one, like Logan said earlier, is turning out to be quite a process. We need to make the decision soon, but we're not ready yet. Last Friday, we played a short set at Mulligan's Pub in East Grand Rapids. It was a good opportunity to get out and play the folklore songs we have been working so hard on. We definitely needed a change of scenery and we had a good time too. We'll be back in the shed on Thursday to continue work on the album. Good progress has been made the last 2 weeks-let's make it 3 in a row.

We have been busy checking out and talking to various recording studios to start to narrow down our options on where to record our album. Jon and I checked out one very good studio prospect last Sunday and we will be going to tour several more in the upcoming weeks. Where we record and who does the sound engineering on the album is a very big deal. This will probably be one of the biggest decisions we have to make in this process. Where, who, and how you record a song has a much bigger impact on the overall outcome than you would think. We are hoping for a sound engineer to be our "5th" band member to work with us in the recording sessions. It's all been pretty exciting and stressful so far!
Logan This week we put our individual work on the line. After spending hours and hours individually working at home with click tracks tonight's practice put that hard work to the test. We have already established a base time for each of the folklore songs and have been practicing to that time. When we came together thursday night we all played together, headphones on, for the first time and........
Wow, it went really well. Discovered that each song has a unique feel when played straight up together, adding the click track forced us to stay in time and in turn changed the feel of the song. Not in a bad way but in a new realization way :-) We found out that the more we play together, headphones on, the better our time will be come studio time and the more relaxed the songs will become. Trying to get that live feel and good time to match up is the goal for now. Spread the love Jon |
